Makeup Crush Monday

I know MCM stands for Man Crush Monday, but I couldn’t resist a post about makeup today. I came across this photo by Jamie Nelson, with makeup by Lottie Stannard and nails by Julie K and I was instantly smitten.

I love everything about the image, how edgy and raw the makeup is, all while still exuding fashion forward thinking. The pop of neon colors against the “dirty” looking face and hands is just so inventive and eye catching. The nails are so delicately splattered with color and the lips so vibrant. This is art to me. I had to share this image with all of you and hope it brightens your day as it did mine. So here is to my Makeup Crush Monday and enjoy! image

INSPIRATION VAULT: Colourful, fantasy makeup

Its no secret that I absolutely ADORE fantasy makeup- and all that this amazing, beautiful genre encompasses!

Lashes, sequins, colour, sparkle, feathers, stick-ons, embellishments, abstract lines- I love it all!

Its definitely a style which pushes makeup beyond pure glamour to something much more theatrical, creative and artistic. J’adore!

There are so many types of fantasy makeup- futuristic, animal-inspired, mythological, alien- all requiring many different techniques and lots of imagination. The possibilities are endless, have a peek at some ideas below and get inspired….*ZAiGxihQXTW-ddZ8dXqqPYSKhCD5HF*vPCsbzDKA3XYaCwGMtlCb9K12Xt27IwDA/IMG_3421013.jpg

INSPIRATION: Creem’s ‘In the Shadows’ Editorial

I love a good eerie and evocative editorial! And Creem Magazine’s ‘In the Shadows’ is no exception! Shot by Paris-based photographer Susanne Stemmer,  and featuring the clothing and jewelry designs of Ale Elsbacher, the series depicts a regality to the darkness that surrounds the photoshoot.

Creem Magazine 'In the Shadows'

I’m drawn in by the swirling, smoky atmosphere and ethereal lighting which lends a mystical, surreal quality to the shots. The soft makeup, executed by  Birgit Fuchs, looks suitably off centre when paired with disheveled hair and bejewelled, off-kilter crowns.

I love how its styled and accessorised stars; scraps of fishnet-mesh hairpieces; knitted sweaters and puffed shoulder tank tops. Opulent pearl headpieces that shine in the light. The styling is subtly eccentric and very feminine, heightening an imaginative narrative.

Almost otherwordly, like a past memory brought to life amidst a sea of misty smoke and sparks.

INSPIRATION VAULT: Beauty from the dark side

An ode to dark beauty……

Black lips, smouldering eyes, inky lashes dark as night.

Streaks of ebony. Lashings of charcoal. Smudges of coal. Sharp lines in jet. Flashes of onyx, obsidian.

Shadowy, pitch dark, sombre, alarming, dramatic, edgy.

Raven-sable-dusky mistress of the dark.

It’s strong, flamboyant style that breaks all the rules.

It’s flashes of colour in unexpected places, angled lines, sharp brows that defy gravity.

It’s flashes of glitter and studs on lips and eyes. Its dark, black lipstick dripping with sin.

It’s sometimes far more makeup than your grandmother would approve of.

It’s makeup that screams  that you’re a showstopper.

It’s intense contouring.

It’s red lipstick!

Its colour-blocked eyes; sharp, thick, don’t mess with me eyeliner.

Its a look that screams confidence, individuality and that you mean business.

Daring eye makeup

Fierce beauty demands to be noticed, it needs to stand out.

It’s avant garde. Its slightly crazy, but always bold, visionary, provocative and utterly mesmerising.

What’s your take on fierce?
